Elder Dallin H. Oaks of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles took the text of his Sunday morning address from the hymn “I’ll Go Where You Want Me to Go.”
Elder Oaks spoke of examples of faithful people from the scriptures who followed this mandate, including Abraham, David, Esther, Lehi and Nephi.
There are examples of this faith all around us, Elder Oaks said.
“Our faithful senior missionaries provide the best examples I know,” Elder Oaks said.
“We’ll go anywhere and do what is asked,” Elder Oaks said, citing the words of one senior missionary couple. “It is not a sacrifice, it is a privilege.”Elder Oaks said millions of others serve from their homes, including bishoprics and stake presidencies and others who serve in their wards and branches.
“The Gospel of Jesus Christ challenges us to become,” Elder Oaks said. “This is the way men and women prepare for the ultimate blessing of eternal life.”
Elder Oaks said there are also those in the Church who do not accept callings and refuse to serve.
“If you are delinquent in your commitment, please consider who it is you are refusing to serve,” Elder Oaks said.
Elder Oaks spoke of the perfect example of the Savior and encouraged members to follow him.
“We serve God and our family members to become the kind of children who can return to live with our heavenly parents,” he said.
