Elder M. Russell Ballard

Elder Ballard encouraged all church members to raise their standards, just as the church asked its young men and missionaries to raise theirs.

Referencing the Gospel of John, Elder Ballard repeated the charge given to the General Authorities as well as all members of the church, "go and feed my sheep." He also emphasized how seriously the Apostles regard this charge as they take the gospel to the world.

Elder Ballard asked members to help the missionaries find people to teach, as well as looking over and protecting them. "We are sent forth by the Lord himself to find and help people come into the church," he said.

"We must be more faithful and more spiritually in tune so we can teach the Restoration and Savior's life better," said Elder Ballard. He gave three guidelines to assist in this "challenging and frightening" responsibility.

1) Exercise faith. Elder Ballard said to pray as a family. "Ask the Lord in prayer to help you find a date to have someone in your home for the missionaries to teach," he said.

Ballard asked members not to prejudge and instead to have their heart's open to share. "Over time the Lord will put people in your path. He is the shepherd. They know his voice, and through you will recognize it," he said.

2) Leaders must lead by example. Elder Ballard said the Lord will prompt and guide leaders, which will give them courage and spiritual power to help the missionaries.

Elder Ballard said each ward's motto should become "Let's all work to grow the ward." Then he asked members to use Easter as a time to invite friends and family over to talk about the life, ministry, and resurrection.

3) Missionary work does not require development of strategies or gimmicks; it does require faith and love. Elder Ballard encouraged members to let the power of love guide them in sharing the gospel with all the people they encounter. That the common search for lasting happiness would help people become teachable, and happiness only comes from knowing and loving the savior.

Elder Ballard told members not to be afraid of offending someone, but to make sure to share the gospel with the motivation of love for another.
