Elder Neal A. Maxwell.

Elder Neal A. Maxwell of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles spoke on developing one's soul, even in times of uncertainty and war.

"Uncertainty as to world conditions does not justify moral uncertainty," Elder Maxwell said.

Adultery, for example, he said, cannot be rationalized simply because a war is on and wives and husbands are far apart.

God's work will not be interrupted by world events, he said.

"His divine determinations are guaranteed," Elder Maxwell said. "He knows the end from the beginning. God is fully able to do his work and bring all his purposes to past."

Elder Maxwell also spoke of the quiet way in which God often works.

He used the example of Joseph Smith Sr., and how Heavenly Father led his family to Palmyra.

Because God's work will not be interrupted, church members need to continually strive to better themselves, to care for the life of their soul, even amid problems, Elder Maxwell said.

"The obscuring mists of the moment cannot change the reality of Christ," he said.

Counseling members to constantly strive for their own conversions, Elder Maxwell said the outcomes of this process include losing the disposition to do evil, which leads to the ability to strengthen one's brother.

Elder Maxwell encouraged members of the church to stay focused on working toward their eternal salvation.

"God has assured us, 'I will lead you along; I will be in your midst,'" he said.
