UNIVERSITY POLICE TIP OF THE WEEK: Please remember to walk bikes during class breaks. Skateboards, long boards and scooters are prohibited at any time on campus.
COMMUNICATIONS VIOLATION,
A female student reported receiving sexually explicit phone calls Sept. 5 from an online relay service at her apartment in Hinckley Hall. There are no suspects in the case.
A man received phone calls from an unidentified person threatening to repossess his vehicle. He didn’t own the vehicle and told the man he had the wrong number. Once he got hold of his employees boss, things were straightened out.
STALKING
A male student is reportedly being stalked by a female student and has told her that he wants no further contact and is considering a restraining order. He broke off their relationship back in July and she didn’t like the break-up and has continued to harass him.
THEFT
A student admitted taking abandoned bikes from campus from Jan. 15 to March 15, 2005. The student said he took the bikes for parts to build one new bike that would work.
A 7-inch screen DVD player was taken from the Fine Arts Center Sept. 12.
Three envelopes containing $152 cash were taken from the Lost and Found in the Wilkinson Student Center Sept. 1.
A female student had her wallet stolen Sept. 9 after she had taken it out of her backpack and set it on the desk next to her in the Harold B. Lee Library. She looked down and when she looked up again, the wallet was gone. It contained $15, miscellaneous cards and pictures.
A student left his backpack on the HBLL 5th floor and moved 20 feet away and when he came back his wallet was missing, which contained $40, debit card, checkbook and ID cards.
A $150 bicycle was stolen from the Fine Arts Center bike rack between Sept. 3-5 after it had been left unlocked overnight.
A male student picked up candy in the BYU Bookstore Sept. 7 thinking that it was part of a promotion. After confronted he agreed to pay the 25 cents.
Three nameplates were stolen from the Joseph F. Smith Building parking lot Sept. 6 between the hours of 6:45 a.m. and 8 a.m.
A $300 laptop was stolen from a male student Aug. 30 after he left it in the library or the Cougareat.
A $200 GT black mountain bike with yellow lettering was stolen from the Cannon Center bike rack Sept 1.
A faculty member claimed someone entered his office in the Snell building and took football tickets from his desk. The police checked the seats during the game but there was nobody with his tickets.
A staff member saw a male riding off on his bike as he watched from his office in the Smith Fieldhouse. He went outside to catch the guy but lost him in the parking lot as he turned by the new athletic building. The suspect is described as an older male with white hair wearing an orange T-shirt.
A male student locked his personal items in the Richards Building locker room Aug 29 to attend class. When he came back all of the items, even his clothes, were missing from his locker
Someone stripped the left front turn signal off a 1987 Dodge Raider in the 2nd level parking lot in the JFSB. The estimate damage is $25.
CRIMINAL MISCHIEF
Someone cemented ceramic animals on rocks of the waterfall near the Bell Tower Sept. 5. The officer took down 14 different ceramic animal figures that were half-cemented to the rocks.
The center kitchen window of an apartment at Whitney Halls in Heritage Halls was damaged Sept 10, only the outside pane was broken.
DISORDERLY CONDUCT
A female student reported that someone was tapping at her window at John Hall in Helaman Halls Sept. 3 and she saw a mannequin head on a pole. There were 15 people in the area with two heads on poles. The case is closed and there are no suspects.
FIRE
A male student turned the stove on automatic cleaning in his Wymount Terrace apartment Aug. 29 and after a while an unpleasant odor came and he lit candle and left it near the vent. After he came back, the candle had melted and the wax ignited. His neighbor had extinguished the fire.
Someone left a pan of oil on a burner in Kimball Hall in Heritage Halls Sept. 10 and forgot about it. It ignited but there was no damage other than smoke.
A dumpster was fully engulfed with flames when police came to John Hall in Helaman Halls Sept. 3. Someone saw two males dumping either a portable barbecue or charcoal briquettes just prior to the fire.
HAZMAT
The police are looking for a chemical that has been misplaced since Sept 9. So far they haven’t found it.
SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY
Someone reported a suspicious man breaking into vehicles Sept. 8. When police confronted him there was nothing to indicate that he was breaking into anything.
A female student reported notes taped to her locker in the library accusing her of being responsible for a stolen laptop. She said she knows nothing about the computer.
An older male was reported for suspicious activity after someone noticed him opening all the washers and dryers in the laundry at Wyview Park. When he was confronted it was learned that he had personal items in each of the washers and dryers.
BOOKSTORE SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY
A father was trying to play Cupid between a Bookstore employee and his son. He tried to pressure her to go out with him but she told him that she didn’t want anything to do with her son.
SKATEBOARDING
A male student was issued a citation for skateboarding on campus after he had been warned not to do so.
