LDS Church officials announced Friday the Brigham Young University Salt Lake Center will relocate to the Triad Center, north of the Gateway, in fall 2007.
In October 2004, LDS Church officials announced that the Salt Lake Center and the LDS Business College would open at the Triad fall 2006. But for unspecified reasons, only LDSBC will be opening next fall.
When the Salt Lake Center does move to the Triad, it will be in the building west of the new LDSBC building, said Scott Trotter, church public affairs manager.
“Part of [the reason for the move] is to just consolidate and bring it all together,” Trotter said.
The move will not immediately change the size of BYU-SL. It will remain at about 3,200 students, Trotter said.
Things will continue as they always have at the Salt Lake Center regardless of the approaching move, said Dr. Lee Glines, BYU Salt Lake Center director.
“We will just continue to operate the same as we have since 1959 when the center was opened,” he said.
This will be the fifth move for the center, Glines said. It has been at its present location of 3760 S. Highland Drive since 1995.
