Criminal Mischief

July 18: A student reported to police that she was receiving excessive and annoying calls and text messages to her cell phone by four unknown individuals. Police contacted the individuals, whom happened to be EFY students, and questioned them. Upon investigation it appears the individuals got the students number by accident and had been trying to contact another EFY participant.

July 19: Two employees of the WSC found some dry ice and proceeded to make explosives with them. Police were called to the loading dock area of the building and the individuals were reported to their supervisor.

July 19: A man posing as an evacuee of Hurricane Katrina was soliciting tenants of Wymount Terrace for financial assistance. Police believe the individual was a scam artist and not an actual hurricane victim.

July 25: A portion of asphalt north of the WSC had graffiti advertising gay marriage. No arrests have been made and the writing has been removed.

Theft

July 3-18: A package of Oreo cookies and two cases of compact discs were reported stolen from the WSC Ballroom. One of the cases contained CD's and DVD's with EFY resources on them. The other contained personal CD's. No arrests have been made.

July 19: Two employee backpacks were stolen from the Harold B. Lee Library after they were left unattended.

The missing items had an estimated value of $1880 and included a laptop, zip drive, textbook, EpiPen (used for those with nut allergies) and two blank checks. Another employee was later apprehended with the items. The exact charges are still pending.

July 19: Four winter coats were taken from a laundry machine at Wymount Terrace. Two adult coats and two children's were taken and are estimated to be worth $300. This same individual contacted police a few weeks prior to report towels stolen from the laundry room.

July 22: A vehicle was reported stolen from Heritage Halls after it was taken without permission. The car was driven away after someone discovered a car key they had also worked on this individual's car. Four individuals have been charged with unauthorized control for an extended time.

Disorderly Conduct

July 18: Officers were called to the central building of Heritage Halls to attend a meeting with EFY participants about the dangers of shooting people with air soft guns.

July 21: Police were called to building 16 of Wymount Terrace to keep the peace. The father of the two children came to pick up the kids from his ex-wife and contacted police to assist him because of previous experiences. As it turns out, he was not scheduled to visit the kids this day and was asked to leave.

Fire Alarms

July 19: Students using a fog machine inside of Budge Hall in Helaman Halls set off the fire alarm. Police spoke with the individuals and the alarm was reset.

July 23: A flood alarm in the Marriott Center was triggered after being buried in debris.

July 24: A missionary at the MTC threw a Frisbee, striking and setting off a fire alarm.

Vehicle Accidents

July 16: In lot 16 a driver struck a parked car. The driver returned and left a note. The two parties involved are resolving the incident.

July 17: A hit and run occurred in lot 20, northeast of the Marriott Center. The car's estimated damaged is $600.

July 18: A vehicle struck the right rear side of a parked car in lot 40. The driver proceeded to drive away and later returned with a note with their contact information. No citation was issued as both parties involved are settling the accident.

July 19: A grounds employee lost control of their push lawnmower and struck a parked car in the parking lot of the law school. The lawnmower left a three-inch scratch.

July 20: The driver of a car crashed into a cement light pole in a parking lot. A witness to the accident called police because they believed a passenger in the car was bleeding. A license plate number was written down and a citation is pending upon completion of the investigation.

July 22: University Police assisted the Provo Police with a minor traffic accident on 9th East and Birch Ave.
