Theft

July 27: A Canon XL1 digital camcorder valued at $5,500 was reported stolen. The camcorder was thought to be misplaced when faculty members moved from UVSC to the JFSB sometime in May. Police and faculty believe the camcorder was stolen and not misplaced during the move.

July 25: A tennis racket was reported stolen from the outdoor tennis court. The victim left the racket unattended and upon return, it was missing. There are no suspects.

July 26: A Liahona brand mountain bike valued at $300 was reported stolen from outside a laundry room at Wymount Terrace. The lock was cut and no suspects have been identified.

July 27: In lot 37, a student reported to police that his license plates, car registration and bill of sale had been stolen from his vehicle. The student bought the car several months ago, and police believe the previous owner had removed the items. The student was told to contact the Utah Department of Motor Vehicles to resolve the issue.

July 29: An employee left work to find his car had been stolen from lot 4. Police and the individual determined his roommate had borrowed the car, and the victim did not wish to pursue any charges.

July 30: Several unknown persons tried to steal coins from a washing machine in Heritage Halls. No money was taken, but the failed attempt caused $200 in damage. No suspects have been identified yet.

July 31: Approximately $60 was stolen out of a cash box in the Taylor building. There are no suspects.

July 31: A female student was arrested for shoplifting at the BYU Bookstore and was issued a misdemeanor citation. The student allegedly stole 12 DVDs and other miscellaneous items valued at more than $300.

Traffic Accidents

July 25: Two vehicles were involved in a minor traffic accident in lot 37. The owners of the cars are working out the damages between themselves.

July 26: A tractor pulling a trailer with construction supplies crashed into a light pole while attempting to make a right turn near 450 E. and 1230 N.

July 26: Two vehicles collided into each other after the drivers of both vehicles reversed at the same time. No one was injured and only minor damages occurred.

Suspicious Activity

July 21: Police are investigating a verbal altercation that occurred between a motorist and a couple on their bicycles near Wymount Terrace. The complainant alleges the male bike rider got into an argument with the driver and then threw his bicycle at his car. A minimal scratch was found on the car and there are currently no suspects.

July 27: An employee contacted police about a suspicious letter that was received in the John A. Widtsoe Building. Police opened the letter and found travel brochures inside.

July 27: A University Police bike officer staked out a vehicle near the track and field complex after finding out the vehicles owner had two outstanding warrants. The officer was looking for the female owner to return to the car when an unidentified male entered the vehicle. When the individual noticed the officer approaching the car, he fled in the vehicle. The officer was unable to pursue the car.

July 31: A parking officer reported an open container of alcohol in a vehicle near the Harris Fine Arts Center. Upon investigation, police determined the container in question was in fact an empty bottle of maple syrup.

July 31: An individual was asked to leave campus, or be cited for trespassing, after the individual was found to be living in a mechanical shed west of LaVell Edwards Stadium.

July 31: Orem Police contacted University Police about a BYU student who had been harassing two other students. The victims allege the individual has been harassing them ever since they reported him to police for alcohol related offenses.

Fire Alarms

July 27: A fire alarm was reported in Heritage Halls. Police arrived and reset the alarm, which had no apparent reason for being set off.

Aug. 1: In Budge Hall, in Helaman Halls, police responded to a fire alarm. The building was evacuated but after finding no smoke or flames, the tenants were allowed to return.
