Animal Problem

Nov. 16: A female student found a dog walking around in the Wilkinson Center. She reported it to the information desk, and held the dog until an officer arrived. The dog was impounded and taken to the animal control center.

Assault

Nov. 24: A University of Utah fan was head-butted by another man at the football game. The U of U fan had returned to his seat to find two young ladies standing on the seat, and words were exchanged. The girls told their dad about this incident and he confronted the U of U fan. The U of U fan got several stitches to close up a gash on his nose. This matter is still under investigation.

Burglary

Dec. 1: The Provo Police received a call reporting that someone had broken into the drop-off area at Deseret Industries. They responded and called for backup, and the University Police answered the call. When the police arrived, the two suspects attempted to run away. They were stopped by the police and taken to the Utah County jail. One of the suspects had a 5-inch steak knife in his pocket and a plastic baggie containing silverware. The men were charged with aggravated burglary, possession of burglary tools and failure to obey the command of an officer.

Criminal Mischief

Nov. 24: Thirty-one vehicles parked at Wymount Terrace were reported vandalized. University of Utah logos and other slogans had been painted on the windows with red, pink and white window paint. There was no damage, as the paint was water-soluble.

Nov. 26: A male individual was seen running from the building after explosives in May Hall in Helaman Halls destroyed a toilet.

Dec. 1: The police stopped two 18-year-old male students at the intramural fields. They had been pulling each other on a snowboard behind their vehicle. The police questioned them then let them go. After the snow melts, the grounds crew will determine if the grass was damaged, and the students will be assessed the cost of damage.

Disorderly Conduct

Sept. 10- Nov. 11: BYU Housing Services identified the perpetrators of a series of stink bomb attacks in Helaman Halls. Upon further investigation, they found that three students were responsible for persuading nearly every resident on the floor of their hall to participate in the attacks.

Nov. 21: Two male individuals, one wearing a University of Utah shirt, were reported yelling and throwing a football or a Frisbee inside the Conference Center. When the officers arrived, the suspects had left the building.

Identity Fraud

Nov. 11: A female student reported that she had received an e-mail from service@irs.gov, claiming that there had been a miscalculation on her tax report, and that she was eligible for a refund. She was asked to submit a tax refund request and complied. She reported the incident to the police after being told to do so by her dad.

Information Report

Nov. 28: The Provo Police discovered a stolen vehicle with license plates that had been taken off a vehicle at Wymount Terrace. The plates were returned to the owners. There are no suspects on who stole the vehicle or the license plates.

Snowboarding

Dec. 1: A 17-year-old male was cited for snowboarding on campus. He, and another man, had built a wooden ramp, covered it with snow and were snowboarding from the parking lot to the sidewalk at the LaVell Edwards Stadium.

Suspicious Activity

Nov. 13: A 23-year-old male student reported a suspicious female. He was walking with his bike when she approached him and asked him to accompany her to pick up her friend. She insisted, but he refused. He suspected that she was attempting to steal his bike. He described her as a blonde 25- to 35-year-old female, 5 feet 11inches, weighing approximately 180 to 200 pounds.

Dec. 3: An officer was sent to investigate a suspicious person who had parked her car in the driveway on the east side of the Wilkinson Center. She was wearing plastic bags on her hands and the car was full of bags of junk. Upon further investigation, the officer discovered that the vehicle belonged to a woman who had been reported prior to this incident. The police suspect she uses the facilities in the Wilkinson Center to bathe and groom.

Theft

Nov. 5-6: A 26-year-old male reported his wallet stolen after using it at the Creamery on Ninth East. His driver's license, an American Express card, two debit cards, two credit cards and two Victoria's Secret gift cards were in the wallet when it was stolen.

Nov. 17: A bicycle was reported stolen from a bike rack near the botany pond. The owner claimed the bike was locked, but said she was having trouble with the locking device. The next day, she reported that the bicycle had been returned to the same location it was taken from. The police suspect it had not been stolen.

Nov. 20: Two tickets to the BYU vs. University of Utah football game were reported stolen from an office in the Nichols Building. The victim claimed that they were taken while the office was locked.

Nov. 23: A camera was stolen out of an unlocked vehicle in Wyview Park. The owner had carried some other belongings into his apartment and intended to return for the camera, but got distracted and forgot. When he remembered, he locked the doors using the keyless entry. He went out to his car the next morning and discovered that the camera was gone. The camera was later found on the front porch of the owner's apartment, in a pile of newspapers.

Nov. 24: A 26-year-old male was seen shoplifting from the Cougar Den during the football game. When he left the Bookstore with the football, he realized somebody was following him and tried to run away. The floorwalker was able to identify the man's wife, who was still in the Cougar Den, and learn the identity of the man. He was given a misdemeanor citation and will go to court on Dec. 17 at 8 a.m.

Dec. 1-3: A saxophone was reported stolen from a locker in the Harris Fine Arts Center. The owner claims that the locker was secured with a lock from BYU. The saxophone is valued at $4,000.

Trespassing

Dec. 3: Two male students were talking in a bedroom in their apartment in Wyview Park at approximately 4:30 a.m. when they heard a noise in the living room. When they entered, they found a man in the living room. They were unable to get a description because it was dark and the man quickly left the room. They searched the apartment, but did not find anything missing.
