Free Movie Showing to Teach Economics

Community action services and Food Bank is hosting a free movie screening of Dreamwork's "Over the Hedge" on Saturday as part of Utah Saves Week.

The showing is open to the public and will take place at 7 p.m. in Brigham Young University's Varsity Theatre. Free popcorn and candy will be provided and a prize drawing will take place.

"This movie night is designed to give families a chance to spend time together and have fun," said Amanda Stradling, a financial wellness coordinator for Community Action. "It will also provide a teaching moment about the importance of saving money for the future."

During the film families will be encouraged to for money-saving principles, and after the film a community action representative will lead a discussion on how to proactively save for the future.

Utah Saves Week runs through Sunday, and is a United Way Initiative to encourage residents to make goals to save money for the future.

Utah Saves is a statewide coalition of non-profit, corporate and government groups working together to help Utah residents save money and build wealth. It helps residents reduce debt, build emergency funds and afford homes, education and retirement.
