On their way in, they had to walk through the "President's Room," where the portraits of every General Young Women and Relief Society President hang. As she walked through the hall, Elaine S. Dalton said she felt their eyes on her, as if they were speaking to her.

"They were saying, 'We have built a firm foundation. Go forward now. Go forward and build on this foundation'," Sister Dalton said.

After passing through this room, Sister Dalton was announced as the new Young Women General President, with Sister Mary N. Cook, as first counselor, and Sister Ann M. Dibb, as second counselor.

In their remarks, all three women said they planned to make special efforts to reach out to the young women of the world, both member and non-member, and help them understand their identity as children of God.

Sister Cook said during her husband's service as a mission president in Mongolia, she saw first hand what Young Women of the world were lacking.

"They need to know who they really were and are," Sister Cook said, "and the Gospel will help them know they're daughters of God... and when they know that, they become new people."

Sister Dalton said she wanted to help young women realize the power they can have to make a difference in the world.

"They [the young women of the church] are very important to us, one-by-one... They can change the world with the virtue of their light."

To reach out to non-member girls, Sister Dalton said the presidency will stress that education and church standards will lift young women and even whole families from the filth of the world.

During one trip to Africa, Sister Dalton said she met a non-member who asked her for a copy of her "standards book," or the For the Strength of Youth pamphlet in French.

"She said, 'I need boxes and boxes of this book for my country, to help it rise above the pollution that surrounds it'," Dalton said.

Through individual experiences like these, the new Young Women General Presidency say they are going to help the young women of the world realize who they are and reach their full potential.
