UVSC president, William A. Sederburg, was named Utah CEO of the year for the government sector by Utah Business Magazine.

Sederburg was selected as one of the recipients because of his history and involvement in the community. The recipients were nominated by local business leaders and were selected for their successes in the community and their specific fields.

"We were looking for business leaders or CEOs that had something in the past year that significantly helped the business community," said Jacob moon, managing editor for Utah Business Magazine in a news release. "Sederburg has been instrumental in bringing UVSC to the next level - UVU."

Sederburg is a native of Chadron, Neb., and later spent most of his professional career in Minn., as a state senator and president of Ferris University.

Sederburg told Utah Business magazine that he is consistently looking to the future and life's next adventure which ultimately brought him to Utah.

"One day I'm walking down the street in front of the capitol building when a new legislator asked me, 'In your day, how did you do such and such,' and it dawned on me that I was becoming part of Michigan's past," Sederburg said. "That's when I decided that I wanted to be somewhere where I could be part of the future. So my wife and I decided to go on an adventure."

Sederburg's decision to come to Utah was fueled by his desire to implement change and develop the state's future.

"I came to Utah because I wanted to truly build something great and make a difference," Sederburg said. "I wanted to build a university and really a good school."

Through Sederburg's efforts, UVSC has added additional faculty, built a new library and the school is preparing for its official university transition on July 1.

UVSC students and alumni have noticed dramatic improvements in the school and its curriculum under Sederburg's direction.

"From the time that I left on my mission to when I got back, I saw significant improvement in the school," said Clint Wadley, a UVSC alumnus and BYU student. "I believe this improvement will continue under the direction of President Sederburg."

Additional information on Sederburg and his efforts to strengthen and develop UVSC can be found on the school's new Web site, www.uvu.edu.
