The BYU men's and women's track and field teams will be competing at two different invitational meets this weekend to prepare for upcoming regional and conference meets.
The women's team will compete at the Boise Invitational Friday, and the Men's team will compete Saturday at the Best Buy Weber State Open in Ogden.
The men's track and field team is currently ranked 17th in NCAA Division-I rankings. Men's head coach Mark Robinson said the majority of the men's team will be participating in Saturday's meet.
"We are just trying to get people qualified for regional," Robinson said.
BYU has already qualified 20 athletes from the men's track and field team for regionals. Regionals are important because "you've got to do well at regionals or your season is over," he said
Women's track and field head coach Craig Poole will only take a partial team going to the Boise Invitational.
"We are just trying to qualify people for better rankings," Poole said.
Those rankings are important for future meets including the Utah Twilight on May 7 and the upcoming conference and regional meets. Coach Poole also mentioned that many of the athletes will be going to "work on technique and hone skills" for these upcoming meets.
The events for the men's track and field team will begin at noon at Stewart Stadium in Ogden. The meet begins with field events at noon, and the running events will start at 2 p.m., ending close to 5 p.m. Admission is free to the public.
