Educational Inquiry, Measurement and Evaluation (EIME) is a newly designed doctoral degree program which will be offered by the McKay School of Education at BYU beginning this fall.

The program's mission statement explains that the program is designed to produce graduates with a Ph.D. who can work productively as researchers, evaluators, measurement and assessment specialists or policy analysts in a variety of settings including universities, government agencies ... test development companies or private research and development firms."

The new program aims to produce scholars who have an understanding of the foundations of education, in-depth knowledge of the subject matter, methodological expertise and practical experience from mentored internships.

"The doctoral program was designed by representatives from all five departments in the McKay School of Education," said Barbara Culatta, Associate Dean of the School. Several former doctoral programs were merged into one interdepartmental program.

Of the twenty-seven doctorate programs offered at BYU, EIME will be the first interdepartmental degree offered on campus. Because it is interdepartmental, the McKay School itself will directly administer the EIME doctorate, with representatives from all five departments in an oversight committee.

"This refocus ensures that McKay School graduates are prepared to make significant contributions to solving persistent and challenging educational issues faced by the state, nation and world," program coordinator Richard Sudweeks said. "The program should be especially attractive to students who have performed well in basic courses in research and statistical methods and who want to further develop their skills in preparation for a successful career in these areas."

Students who are interested in applying to the EIME program must submit application materials by May 30. Application forms and information can be obtained online at www.byu.edu/gradstudies.
