Women Golfers Finish Eighteenth at NCAA West Regionals

LINCOLN, Calif. -- The No. 27 BYU women's golf team finished the 2008 NCAA West Regional in 17th place at 43-over-par.

Junior Natalia Jimenez led the Cougars in round three, shooting a 3-over-par 75 for the day. She hit consistently throughout the round and finished the tournament tied for 63rd place with teammate Daphne Vines.

Although the Cougars fought hard, the third round proved to be the most challenging of the Regional. Seniors Juli Erekson and Ashley Childers both shot an 8-over-par 80 and Jade Bollinger shot a 6-over-par 78.

The 2008 NCAA West Regional was held at the par-72 Lincoln Hills Golf Club, where tournament tees are set at 6,338 yards. The West Regional consisted of 21 Division-I schools from various parts of the United States, including No. 2 Southern California, No. 4 Arizona State and No. 12 Arizona.

The top eight teams from the West Regional will advance to the NCAA Championships in Albuquerque, N.M. No. 2 Southern California won the tournament at 9-under-par, while No. 4 Arizona State finished in second place at 6-over-par and No. 47 UNLV followed in third at 15-over-par.

With an 18th-place finish at the tournament, the Cougars concluded the 2007-08 season.
