Monday, June 16

Artist lecture: Artist Lily Havey will share her memories of four childhood years in Japanese internment campus as illustrated in a series of watercolor paintings currently hanging in the Orem Public Library. The lecture will be in the library's storytelling wing at 7 p.m.

Wednesday, June 18

TV transition: KBYU-TV will present two informational public meetings about the nationwide transition from analog to digital TV, which occurs in 2009. The English meeting will be Wednesday and the Spanish presentation will be Thursday, both at 7 p.m. in the Orem Library Media Auditorium.

Thursday, June 19

Musical: The Empress Theatre kicks off its children's education theater program with "The Big Bad Musical - A Howling Courtroom Comedy," at 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and Monday at 9104 W. 2700 South, Magna. Auditions: Hale Center Theater Orem will be conducting cold reading auditions by appointment for the comedy/drama "The Hasty Heart." The play runs Aug. 1-Sept. 13 and features many men between 20 and 60 years old and one woman 20-30. A wide range of accents are needed including American southern, Australian, New Zealand, proper and cockney British. Day of Song: the Temporary Museum of Permanent Change in Salt Lake City will be the local host the first Day of Song, which is gathering voices and instruments all over the world for a day devoted to the role of music as an instrument of change. Info: www.museumofchange.org/dayofsong.php.

Saturday, June 21

Genealogy classes: The Family History Library is offering an all-day series of free classes on Scottish research, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. in the auditorium of the church History Museum in Salt Lake City. Schedule: www.familysearch.org. Register: send e-mail to FHLClassReg@ldschurch.org or call 801-240-4950.

Ice Cream Social: Alpine Community Theater is sponsoring an Ice Cream Social with entertainment, music and all the ice cream you can eat for $1 at Legacy Park in Alpine, 5-8pm. Visit www.AlpineCommunityTheater.org

Baby contest: The annual America's Freedom Festival Baby Contest for infants up to 30 months old will be 9 a.m.-2 p.m., followed by awards at 3 p.m. in the Grande Ballroom of the Sorensen Center at UVSC. Sponsors and vendors will host educational classes every hour next to the judging area. An activity area for children of all ages will be available. Register: $15 at www.freedomfestival.org.

Orem Library Fundraiser: Purchases at Barnes & Noble Booksellers, 330 E. University Parkway, Orem, on Saturday will benefit the Orem Library. To participate in the fundraiser, pick up a voucher from the library or print one at www.oremlibrary.org and present the voucher when purchasing items at Barnes & Noble on Saturday. A percentage of the net sale will be donated back to the library's Teen Department for the summer reading events and new teen study group facilities. Reunion: UVSC's Wasatch campus in Heber City will ring in the college's transition to Utah Valley University with a UVUphoria celebration and alumni reunion at the Wasatch campus. Events include a $5 dance and cheer clinic for children 5-18, 4-6 p.m.; free Family Fun Fest, 6-7:30 p.m. with dinner for $2 per person or $10 per family; local entertainment, 7:30-8:30 p.m.; magic show, 8:30-10 p.m.; free fireworks, 10 p.m.; free Comedy Sports show until midnight.
