Disorderly Conduct

Oct. 11: A 27-year-old former BYU student was causing a disturbance at the football game by spitting on people. He was arrested and escorted from the stadium after refusing to comply with police orders, detained and released, but banned from the university for 72 hours. No charges were found.

Oct. 11: A University of New Mexico football player, unhappy with the outcome of the game, had to be restrained by his coach and fellow players and helped onto the bus after kicking a door.

Retail Theft

Oct. 7: A male student stole two Nike jackets and a sweatshirt, worth a total of $150, from the BYU Bookstore. Because he is only 17 years old, he will be referred to a juvenile court.

Oct. 9: A BYU Bookstore employee reported a male student who stole a 50-cent candy bar. Police issued a misdemeanor citation for retail theft.

Oct 11: A man stole two footballs from the Cougar Den for a total of $18 worth of merchandise. He was issued a misdemeanor citation for retail theft and subsequently released, but ejected from the stadium.

Accident

Oct. 11: A person riding a motor scooter hit a female student in the crosswalk at 450 East and 1430 North. She was on her way to the football game. The student was checked by the paramedics at the scene and released.

Trespassing

Oct. 8: Police discovered a woman on the third floor of the Jesse Knight Building at 4 a.m. She had fallen asleep on the couch and was asked to leave.

Welfare Check

Oct. 12: Police received a call reporting a woman walking near the Bell Tower in shorts and no shoes at 9:45 p.m. The woman was gone when police arrived.

Suspicious Activity

Oct. 7: A female student reported a suspicious male watching female custodians through the window in the Joseph Smith Building. The suspect was estimated to be in his 40s.

Oct. 8: Police received a call reporting a masked female near the Harris Fine Arts Center who was scaring individuals.

Oct. 8: A concerned observer reported a suspicious male in the HBLL quad at 5:45 p.m. When police questioned him, he said he was Free Running, a game where people run fast toward the corners of buildings or other certain structures and attempt to climb them without assistance and flip or jump. The suspect was a 26-year-old male visitor who said he'd learned of the game through YouTube. Police directed him to go Free Run somewhere else.

Oct. 9: A male attempted to sell his bike to Outdoors Unlimited. Officers had reason to believe it was stolen so the bike was impounded. The case is currently under investigation.

Oct. 9: Police questioned two suspicious males who were looking in parked car windows. They said they were leaving business cards on windshields but police didn't see any cards. The suspects were interviewed and released.

Oct. 11: A complainant reported hearing a female scream come from Maeser Hill near Brick Oven at 10:45 p.m. Police searched the area but found nothing.

Oct. 10: A female student reported a possible stalking by a male acquaintance. She is currently being assisted in getting a protective order-a court order that would command him to leave her alone. If she were to report him bothering her again, he would be arrested.

Identity Theft

Oct. 8: A male student reported identity theft. He lost his wallet in New York in 2005 and recently learned someone has been using his Social Security number to get a mortgage. BYPD has no jurisdiction because the actual crime is occurring in New York, so they transferred the case to another agency.

Police Tip of the Week: "We encourage people to report suspicious conditions and people. We need everyone's eyes in helping us prevent and detect crime."

Tip from Lt. Arnold Lemmon of University Police.
