The BYU swim and dive team returned from UC Irvine with a number of successful results at the Anteater Shootout.

The women performed well, beating five of the six teams in the competition. The Cougars lost to Stanford, what head coach Tim Powers calls a "tough competitor," While the men beat out the Air Force Academy, but lost to UNLV and Hawaii.

"I thought we swam pretty well today," Powers said in a news release.

Both teams made it in the top two and three spots on Friday to advance to Saturday's meet.

Juniors Natasha Menezes, Kirsty Ferrell, Rachel Grant, sophomore Aleesha Miller, freshman Candice Smith and senior Leilani Roberts swam strong, but fell short behind Stanford.

Junior Tawni Jones swept a win in the 1-meter dive event and used her new one-and-a-half with a one-and-a-half twist dive in the 3-meter competition. In the same event, she came up just short in points behind national champion Rachel Bartlow.

Cougar sophomores John Kendrick and Vytenis Slenys, freshman Stott Bushnell and senior Jacoby Jacobsen swam "very well," Powers said.

Diver sophomore Ron Morris took second in the 3-meter competition with a total score of 290.45.

In two weeks the swimmers will compete in the Nike Cup and the divers will compete in the Wildcat Invitational.
