Don't get caught in the crowds at the mall on Christmas Eve, get your shopping done early this year, like tonight. People of all ages are invited to participate in festive holiday activities at the Shops at Riverwoods.
"It is an entertainment-based event to kick start the holiday season," said Anne Cummings-Anderson of Aperture Marketing. The event is tonight from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the Shops at Riverwoods located at 4801 North University Ave.
Various stores will be involved, such as Borders, Magleby's and Williams-Sonoma. Borders will offer story time at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m., while Magleby's and Williams-Sonoma will provide cookies and hot apple cider, respectively. Additionally, all of the stores will be open and free gift-wrapping will be provided with proof of purchase.
"It's a unique event with a lot of entertainment," Cummings-Anderson said. "We think it appeals to any person in the family."
The event will feature live music with performances by The Alligators at 7:30 p.m. and Kid Theodore at 8:30 p.m. There will be performances by the Timpview Ballroom Dancers and an A Cappella men's choir, as well as theatrical performances inspired by Charles Dickens.
Free horse-drawn carriage rides will be offered throughout the night and Santa Claus will be available for children to share their Christmas wishes with.
In addition to starting your own Christmas shopping, donations of gifts and gently-used items for children such as blankets, coats, socks and towels are welcome and will be donated to the Road Home Shelter, Cummings-Anderson said. The Road Home Shelter works with people to help them overcome homelessness by providing support and shelter.
