Religion professor Robert L. Millet has released his new book “Men of Influence.”

Religions may have various meanings for understanding the term “priesthood,” but it contains influence and power no matter what the interpretation by different cultures.

BYU religion professor Robert L. Millet recently released his new book “Men of Influence,” a sequel to his bestselling book “Men of Valor.” The book is about the potential of the priesthood, a large part of the LDS faith.

“I think that all students, member or non-member can be blessed by studying the doctrines of the priesthood,” said Scott Esplin, a professor of church history and doctrine. “The principles and doctrines related to priesthood are not specific to men. In fact, I think it’s helpful for sisters and non-members to understand the priesthood and draw upon its blessings in our lives. President [Boyd K.] Packer gave a talk where he pointed out that priesthood is not just a male thing.”

Millet organized the book into 12 chapters, each describing a different way priesthood-holders can use their priesthood as men of influence.

“I am persuaded that today’s holders of the priesthood are as faith-filled, as noble, as charitable, as hard-working and as spiritually influential as any times in the past,” Millet wrote in his book.

Millet thanks his priesthood leaders, about whom he wrote, “have built my faith in priesthood power by demonstrating that power in their own lives.”

This is not his first book. According to a news release from Deseret Book, he is the author of numerous books including “Men of Valor” and “Grace Works,” and is co-author of the four-volume “Doctrinal Commentary on the Book of Mormon.” He is also a popular speaker and along with teaching ancient scripture, he has served on the Public Affairs and Correlation Committees of the LDS church and was the former dean of Religious Education at BYU.

“Professor Millet is a very good thinker and a very good writer,” said Kent Jackson, the associate dean of Religious Education. “In general it is really important for Latter-day Saints to learn about their religion. Reading good books is one way to do that.”

The book is being sold at Deseret Book, Seagull Book and other local LDS bookstores, including the BYU Bookstore.

This book is sold as a private endeavor and not an official work of the LDS church or BYU.
